Time Flies

  • Mood:
  • Music: talk radio 1210 am
  • Weather: sunny but a little brisk I think
  • Praying for: Terri Schiavo

Wow I can't believe it has been more than two weeks since I posted on here.  I have been busy with my blogsite  which has been taking up a lot of time. My web page also, but that is easier to add things to than the journal or the blog.

I have been obsessed with trying to find ways to prevent the execution of Terri Schindler Schiavo.  No other word for it.  To pull her feeding tube and then court order her NOT to be hand fed is murder.  She has had no therapy for more than 10 years.  She is not in a coma.  She is not vegetative.  She is not PVS.  I go nuts every time I hear someone say that she needs to 'die with dignity' or for the parents to 'just let her go."  The courts are asking that she be starved and be dehydrated until dead.  Dear God, wouldn't any of us fight for a family member under those conditions?  How is that a dignified death?  There is no written proof of her alleged 'end of life' wishes.  There are many questions regarding her collapse unanswered, and no explanation for the history of trauma and old fractures documented by mri and bone scan.  Yet the courts are allowing her guardian the benefit of judicial homicide.  How can someone remain as guardian of a ward that denies her normal rehabilitative care, not even heroic or experimental care, but NORMAL therapy to prevent muscle atrophy and contractures?  No dental care? Restricted visitors and stimuli?  Parents who have starved or attempted to starve their children are indicted on abuse charges.  How can the courts sanction, yes, even MANDATE, her death?  This situation saddens and scares me, that society is approving euthanasia for a disabled individual.  Where is our compassion?  Our hope?  Are people going to have to meet a certain quality of life in order to be allowed to live?

I can't eat a meal without thinking of her and praying for others who don't have ability to feed themselves or have the luxury of an abundance of food.  May God help us.  And may the legislators wake up to this injustice.
